The combined experience and industry network of BioStreet's team has proven invaluable in bringing together the key players in Canada and internationally for the successful development of this project to date.


Darrell Michaels, President and Founder

Darrel Michaels A former stockbroker for 10 years in Calgary, Mr. Michaels has been involved in financing and taking several companies public. In 1991 he moved to Kelowna and used his entrepreneurial skills to start several successful businesses. During that time Mr. Michaels also provided investment-banking services to many U.S. and Canadian companies.

Mr. Michaels was the key initiator of the overall BioStreet concept, was responsible for raising the seed funds for business development, and for hiring the industry consultants to complete the first phases of the project. His primary focus for the remainder of the project development period is raising the required equity and debt financing, including strategic partnerships, to carry the project forward.

Angela Reid, Vice President

Angela Reid Ms. Reid has a background in engineering project management, business development, marketing, public relations, and accessing government funding. She has lived and traveled extensively throughout the US and Canada, and worked with all levels of Canadian and US Governments on a variety of energy efficiency and environmental industry projects. She is also the President of Tigress Ventures Inc., and sits on the Board of Directors for the Alberta Biodiesel Association, the Okanagan Environmental Industry Alliance and the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce Economic Sustainability Sub-Committee. In 2008, Ms. Reid was elected to Kelowna City Council.

Ms. Reid is responsible for project management, working with the engineering team in the design phases of the project and to guide integration of energy efficiency and innovative risk management measures. She leads business development and strategic planning and is responsible for the business plan and due diligence documents. She also oversees government and public relations, including funding programs.

Sandy Donald MacCulloch, Director

Sandy Donald MacCulloch Mr. MacCulloch has over 28 years of experience in the North American Oil & Gas industry after graduating from the University of Calgary in Economics and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Power Engineering. He has worked on several landmark long term contracts in natural gas, and has testified numerous times before the National Energy Board, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and was an expert witness for Westcoast Energy during the Alliance Pipeline Hearings. He was a founding member and company executive of three energy marketing firms; most recently as Senior Vice President-Trading for Engage Energy/Westcoast Energy and President and CEO of Louis Dreyfus Energy Canada LP. He will assist BioStreet with the development of a risk policy and with marketing arrangements on the product side of their business.

Jing Ma, CFO and Director

Jing Ma, CFO and Director Ms. Ma has been with Biostreet since it started up in 2005. She has a bachelor degree in Business Administration major in accounting from Okanagan College UBCO. She is currently pursuing her Certified General Accountant designation. Ms. Ma also worked as an Intermediate level to a Senior level Accounting Technician in a public practice CA accounting firm in Kelowna, and now she is working as a Senior Staff Accountant in a public practice CGA accounting firm in Richmond, BC.

Advisory Board

Brian F. MacNeill, Advisory Board Member

Brian F. MacNeill Brian MacNeill was elected to Suncor’s Board of Directors in 2009 and is chair of the governance committee and a member of the audit committee. Previously, he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Petro-Canada, and prior to that, President and CEO of Enbridge Inc. Mr. MacNeill is a Chartered Accountant and a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Financial Executives Institute. He is also a Fellow of the Alberta Institute of Chartered Accountants and of the Institute of Corporate Directors. Other public board directorships include Capital Power, Toronto Dominion Bank, Telus Corp. and West-Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. Mr. MacNeill will provide experience and contacts in the energy industry and will advise with respect to corporate strategy and execution of significant material agreements.

Eugene Moskal, Engineering & Technology

Eugene Moskal Eugene Moskal is an Engineer with degrees in chemical engineering and a Masters Degree in Polymer Science from the University of Toronto. He has expertise in research, product development and quality systems, including extensive knowledge of the plastics, automotive, truck and fuel cell industry. Mr. Moskal has worked in the areas of patent development, plastics, quality assurance, chemical and environmental engineering in local as well as international settings.

Darcy Caners, Agriculture

Darcy Caners Darcy played an integral role in the negotiation of supply agreements between the former Agricore United (now Viterra) and Husky Oil for both Minnesota and Lloydminster Ethanol plants. He successfully managed the risk for an annual 1.5 million metric tonne sales book, from setting the prices to the grower through their elevator network and selling to end-users and managing the basis and futures positions associated with this program. He will assist BioStreet with the development of a supply risk strategy as we begin to approach producers.

Ernst @ Young Ernst & Young's renewable energy group provides M&A transaction support, due diligence, project and structured finance advice to project sponsors, bidders, investors and borrowers. Their team has experience of all major renewable energy technologies employed in Europe, the US and the Pacific region, and has advised on projects with a value in excess of US$1 billion. Trimark Engineering Integrated Energy Solutions

Trimark Engineering Trimark Engineering provides process design for the industrial agriculture, food, pharmaceutical and biofuel industries. Their services range from project programming, feasibility studies and project management to detailed engineering design, equipment procurement and commissioning. Their process specialization is complimented by the operational experience of their key engineering personnel. They work closely with BioStreet's project stakeholders to identify and develop effective process engineering solutions that are sensitive to the business needs of BioStreet.

Informa Economics Inc.

Informa Economics Informa Economics provides energy related consulting services to food and agricultural related organizations. In addition to providing market information and analysis, the group advises companies on a wide range of issues with direct impact on profitability. Informa Economics provides market information, market outlook and risk management support based on its knowledge and experience as a worldwide leader in agriculture commodity market analyses and risk management techniques. Informa is working with BioStreet to provide long-term forecasts of agriculture and energy commodity prices that will feed into the overall risk management strategy.
