Spring Success

The long awaited approval and permit under the Environmental under the Alberta Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act has been received for BioStreet’s Vegreville Energy biodiesel crushing and refinery project. It has been nearly two years since the original application was submitted. This permit represents a significant milestone in the development of the Vegreville Energy biodiesel refinery. Recent discussions with federal government representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Environment indicate that the approval under Environment Canada is imminent.

Board Development

The BioStreet Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Brian MacNeill has joined the team as an Advisory Board member. Mr. MacNeill’s experience is Broad. He was elected to Suncor’s Board of Directors in 2009 and is Chair of the Governance Committee and a member of the Audit Committee. Previously, he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Petro-Canada, and prior to that, President and CEO of Enbridge Inc. Mr. MacNeill is a Chartered Accountant and a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Financial Executives Institute. He is also a Fellow of the Alberta Institute of Chartered Accountants and of the Institute of Corporate Directors. Other public board directorships include Capital Power, Toronto Dominion Bank, Telus Corp. and West-Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. Mr. MacNeill will provide experience and contacts in the energy industry and will advise with respect to corporate strategy and execution of significant material agreements.

Strategic Partners

BioStreet’s strategy for project financing and operation includes having at least one major strategic partner in the energy industry. Round one and two discussions with several major Canadian energy companies took place between January and April. BioStreet’s project was very well received. These companies are now completing their initial due diligence review and the next round of discussions will take place in May.
